Description
The caregiver-infant relationship is foundational to infant development. For infants with or at risk of cerebral palsy who present with motor challenges and often other co-occurring or comorbid conditions, and for families navigating the stress of early diagnosis and intervention, this caregiver–infant relationship can be impacted. This module helps learners understand how therapists can nurture the caregiver–infant relationship as part of routine early intervention service provision to enhance infant outcomes.
By completing this module, you will learn to:
- Understand the importance of caregiver-infant interactions for infant development and caregiver/child wellbeing
- Recognise signs of difficulties within the caregiver-infant relationship
- Apply relationship-promoting strategies within early intervention service provision that promotes positive caregiver-infant interactions and bonding
- Identify when and where caregivers can be referred for specific caregiver-infant interaction and caregiver sensitivity training
