Why choose this course?

Essentials is comprised of 9 modules that build foundational knowledge of key concepts, principles, processes and frameworks in cerebral palsy early intervention. Collectively, these modules build a guiding lens for therapists working with infants and their families with cerebral palsy.

Essentials is a requirement to gain CPAdvance™ Accredited Practitioner, It lays the groundwork for advancing learning offered through the CPAdvance Core and Elective modules.

Modules included:

  • CPAdvance: an Introduction
 Upon completion, learners will understand the three key best practice principles of early intervention and its application to clinical scenarios. Duration: 15 minutes
  • Understanding Cerebral Palsy in the Early Years
 Upon completion, learners will have an established foundational knowledge of cerebral palsy including diagnostic pathways, types, typographies and prognostic trajectories.
  • Goal Setting
 Upon completion, learners will develop knowledge and skills in using the Rehabilitation Evidence-Based Decision Making (READ) model when goal setting with families.
  • Approaches to assessment for infants with cerebral palsy
 Upon completion, learners will demonstrate an understanding of appropriate assessments to administer in early intervention, how to interpret assessment information and provide assessment feedback using the SPIKE model.
  • Coaching with Parents and Caregivers
 Upon completion, learners will gain skills in applying a coaching approach when working with families in early intervention.
  • Play
 This module identifies strategies to integrate the child’s interests into therapeutic activities in a playful way. It also explores the importance and key ingredients of play for both enjoyment and skill-building across multiple development domains. 
  • Environmental Enrichment
 Upon completion, learners will have knowledge and skills required to apply play in therapeutic interventions.
  • Supporting Caregivers
 Upon completion, learners will have the knowledge and skills to enhance therapeutic outcomes by optimising the infant’s environment.
  • The Caregiver-Infant Relationship
 Upon completion of this module you will understand the importance of caregiver-infant interactions for infant development and caregiver/child wellbeing.
