Description
For infants with cerebral palsy who experience physical, visual, or cognitive challenges, an adaptive switch can provide a simple yet powerful way to engage in play, early communication, and self‑initiated mobility. This module will guide you through practical evidence-informed strategies to assess, trial and implement engaging, child led switch accessible activities for infants with cerebral palsy.
By completing this module, you will learn to:
- Explain how switching can be used to support skill development, independence, participation and engagement of infants with cerebral palsy
- Apply clinical decision-making skills to select appropriate switch access solutions and configure them to support an infant with cerebral palsy’s motor, early communication, visual and cognitive needs
- Apply an early switch skill progression framework to develop an intervention plan to support switch skill development
- Apply family centered practice to support effective and motivating switch use in daily routines
Please note: This module provides examples of switches and switch-accessible equipment, which may be costly and/or not easily accessible in all settings. Therapists are encouraged to utilise tools and resources available to them.
