Through one of the world’s most successful global research collaborations, Australian-led research teams at Cerebral Palsy Alliance have helped reduce the rate and severity of cerebral palsy by 40% in just two decades.

Backed by more than $89 million in funded research across 48 countries, this network unites clinicians and scientists to translate discovery into practice – from early detection to evidence-based intervention.

For clinicians undertaking CPAdvance training, it means direct access to the world’s most comprehensive, proven knowledge base, empowering you to deliver earlier, more effective, evidence-based care for every child at risk of cerebral palsy and similar disabilities.

What 'evidence-based’ means and how Cerebral Palsy Alliance went about selecting interventions?

Evidence-based practice can broadly be defined as an approach to clinical work that facilitates best decisions regarding patient care.

There is no singular definition for ‘evidence-based practice’, however it typically involves the integration of the best available research evidence with clinical expertise, clinical context and patient preferences based on personal values and circumstances (Hoffman, Bennett and Mar, 2016). Evidence-based practice is foundational to most health professionals training and clinical conduct, where it is considered critical for clinical decision making (Sackett, 1997).

Pressures experienced by healthcare services worldwide (World Health Organisation, 2025) highlight the global priority to promote accessible, efficient and effective clinical practice across healthcare professionals and services.

CPAdvance is an evidence-based program, where each module has been selected based on best available evidence for effectiveness when working with children with or at risk of cerebral palsy, including international clinical practice guidelines (Morgan et al., 2021; Jackman et al., 2022) and systematic reviews (Novak et al., 2020; Novak et al., 2025).

Each module offers theoretical and practical practice principles based on best available evidence when working with infants with or at risk of cerebral palsy. Each module is designed so that therapists can apply taught practices in almost any clinical context with any family and infant.

Turning world-leading research into real-life clinical practice - The “Traffic Light” Findings report

Our researchers at Cerebral Palsy Alliance led the world’s most comprehensive review of cerebral palsy interventions, published in Current Developmental Disorders Reports (Novak et al., 2020).

Drawing on the highest levels of evidence from 2012–2019, they developed the Evidence Alert Traffic Light System – a global benchmark that clearly identifies which treatments work, which are promising, and which should be avoided.

This systematic review, conducted by the top 1% of CP authors internationally, shaped the foundation of our interactive, evidence-based training course, ensuring that every strategy taught – from early neuroplasticity interventions to allied health therapies – is scientifically proven, practical, and ready for use in the clinic.
