Why choose this course?

The Core course program for physiotherapists comprises of 12 modules that specifically upskill learners in Task-specific Training. With assumed knowledge of content covered in the Essentials course, learners will be guided in the overarching principles of task specific training. Each of the task-specific training modules will then break down how therapists can support the development of motor tasks key to supporting infant skill development, exploration and independence.

These core modules are a requirement to gain CPAdvance™ Accredited Practitioner, for physiotherapy.

Modules included:

  • CPAdvance: an Introduction
Upon completion, learners will understand the three key best practice principles of early intervention and its application to clinical scenarios. Duration: 15 minutes
  • Task-Specific Training: General Principles
By completing this module, learners will demonstrate foundational knowledge of task-specific training, grounded in neuroplasticity and motor learning theory.
  • Task-specific Training: Reach
By completing this module, learners will demonstrate task-specific training knowledge and its application to the task of ‘reach’.
  • Task-specific Training: Grasp and Release
By completing this module, learners will demonstrate task-specific training knowledge and its application to the tasks of ‘grasping’ and ‘releasing’.
  • Task-specific Training: Sitting
By completing this module, learners will demonstrate task-specific training knowledge and its application to sitting and sitting transitions.
  • Task-specific Training: Head Control
By completing this module, learners will demonstrate task-specific training knowledge and its application to developing infant head control.
  • Task-specific Training: Upright Mobility
By completing this module, learners will demonstrate task-specific training knowledge and its application to support infant mobilisation from an upright position, including cruising, walking and weight shifting.
  • Task-specific Training: Floor Mobility
By completing this module, learners will demonstrate task-specific training knowledge and its application to support infant floor mobilisation and exploration.
  • Home Programs
This module explores evidence-based strategies for designing and implementing effective home programs.
  • Cognitive Training
This module introduces the fundamentals of cognitive training and how all therapists can promote a child’s cognitive development by incorporating cognitive training strategies in their everyday routine and therapy practice.
  • Interactive Reading
Interactive reading dynamically and simultaneously targets multiple domains, including language, cognition and social-emotional skills. This module explores the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of interactive reading.
  • Task-specific Training: Examination
This module invites learners to consolidate their learning from across all task-specific training modules through a series of case studies.
